As most of you will know, September 8th was the first day of school. Some boards went back earlier, and Monkey's cousin was one of these unfortunate students. We got off to a grand start for grade one though and Monkey has a terrific teacher. They've made cupcakes to illustrate their birthday calendar (which he couldn't eat so she brought him cake in a mug the next day)! They've mixed yellow, red, and blue playdough to discover colours! And most importantly in my mind, she is supportive of our efforts to have a great year!
We got the communication book on the go right away, confusing her a bit the first day as Monkey kept asking how many checks he had and he had forgotten to give her his purple book! On that first morning, I helped him hang up his backpack, and reminded him of his routine and to bring in his things. He forgot. Kleenex under his backpack still, gold folder in his bag, what a guy! So excited!
Now, we put his purple book and his planner where they go, any homework on his desk, his lunch on the lunch rack, and everything so he's ready to go before heading to program. He is now a full time before and after school program participant with London Children's Connection. LCC is an amazing program offered to school age children JK-6 so parents can drop their kids at school as early as 7:30am and pick them up as late as 6pm. This really helps working parents, and Monkey has been going since JK. JK he was just after school, SK just 2 days before school, and now fulltime before and after.
Kanga is going to my friend Donna's for childcare. She loves it! Every morning when we get there she says "Hi (her daughter's name)!" It is too funny! She has really learned a lot this month. She is now saying "good-girl", "I don't want it", "no", "I want mommy", and a lot more. She is also now nearly potty trained. She walks to the bathroom or over to her potty when she needs to go, and with a little help with the pants she's off to the races. EC doesn't work? Too much stress on the baby? Yeah right! She's never shown stress and now at 17mos she's nearly ready for underwear! 2 misses yesterday, and that's pretty common right now. It's hard to watch for her potty sitting all the time and if she sits with her pants on, then she's gonna get wet! :)
